Free Bird II
Dylan Rutledge Free Bird II, 2021, wood, rope, mixed media, 5 ft in height
Through research of endangered species in Canada, the overwhelming numbers and species affected by global warming and habitat degradation became apparent. Focusing in on those classified as birds, which are often associated with freedom and harmony. Representing five of these numerous species in the classic form of a bird “decoy” often used in hunting and target practice. By engaging in the sustainable harvesting of material from their source and contributing to the prosperity of the land I feel a more extensive relationship and devotion for the land and all that is within it.
